What is Infection Prevention & Control?

Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) consists of evidence-based practices and procedures that support the prevention and reduction of transmission of infectious diseases. IPAC practices help to support the health of our communities in settings where people live, work and play.

Who are Infection Preventionists & What do We Do?

An Infection Preventionist (IP) is qualified through education, training, experience & certification in Infection Prevention & Control.

A major role for an Infection Preventionist includes safety advocacy. Infection Preventionists work with a variety of individuals to support a culture of safety and to make a positive impact on the health of workers, staff & community members within a variety of settings and within the community.

IP’s work with:
– Leadership; including senior leaders, management, supervisors
– Healthcare Professionals such as Physicians & Nurses
– Public Health
– Community Partners
– Regulatory Agencies
– Professional Organizations

IP’s are dedicated to helping develop policies & practices that ultimately prevent infections. They implement infection prevention practices in healthcare & community settings while educating the public on IPAC practices and creating awareness surrounding infectious diseases.

Having an IP as apart of your team is beneficial in many ways! IP’s are a critical part in creating healthy environments by:
– Holding expertise on infectious diseases and precautions required to prevent these diseases.
– Maintaining a high level of knowledge in educating the public and using developing/readily available research, legislation, guidelines, standards & best practices effectively.
– Delivering oversights.
– Focusing on limiting impacts related to infections & decreasing the risk of exposure to others.

“Infection Preventionists are the central nervous system and the backbone of infection prevention in every setting. We can’t prevent infections without Infection Preventionists.”

– Arjun srinivasan, md (capt, usphs)

Certified Infection Preventionist
Founder & Owner

Hello! I’m Serenity, the Founder and Owner of Superior IPAC Solutions.

I am a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University. I have a certificate in Infection Prevention and Control from Queen’s University and I am a board certified practitioner through the Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology.

As a professional, I hold experience in Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety & Public Health.

It was in nursing school that I was first introduced to the basic concepts of Infection Prevention & Control. Starting my career in hospitals at the bedside, I applied these practices to keep myself and my patients safe. I later took on a role as an IPAC program lead for a local rural hospital. Over the years, I have dedicated my career to expanding my knowledge and experience in all areas of infection control, far beyond basic practices across various sectors.

Since 2021 I have been an active member for IPAC Canada where I currently sit on a multiple interest groups in different areas of infection prevention. I also partake in local committees throughout Northern Ontario.

I am very passionate about Infection Prevention. The experience, knowledge and dedication I bring to the field supports organizations in protecting the health of others.
